April 24th was Administrative Professionals' Day and we don't know what we would do without Ms. Bazin in the Library Learning Commons. She checks out our books, catalogues our books, helps teachers get their books in to be returned, manages students requests, updates Mrs. Nickerson on the LLC needs and the list goes on and on! Hooray for all of the Library Administrative Professionals'!

Tomorrow we will celebrate our grade 4,5 & 6 students who read 9 novels over the past 5 1/2 months. What an accomplishment on top of all of your school work. A special shout out goes to the girl featured in the middle picture who has been competing for ASM since grade 3!
The Library Learning Commons supports home reading. Congratulations to these two winners this month. Keep up the home reading everyone!
Huge thank you to all of the shoppers and volunteers of the Scholastic Book fair. This year we used our funds towards new labelling in the library. It will take 2-3 years to complete the process, but they look amazing!
New Ozobots have arrived. Getting excited to use these with our intermediate students after March Break!
Mondays after Games Club the LLC hosts teachers for coffee and treats for a time to have conversations about the wonderful technology and strategies and programs being used in the teachers' classrooms. It is also a time to connect as a staff and find out what is going on with everyone.
The teachers in SD#23 are lifelong learners too. I (Mrs. Nickerson) am working with UBC leaders in the Teacher-Librarian Diploma program to understand more about the learning that happens in the Library Learning Commons and how our LLC resources can best meet the needs of our learners!
Thank you for supporting our book fair and the ASM Library Learning Commons. We raised $380 in funds and $380 in product for book prizes. Your support is appreciated. Happy reading, Firebirds!
Mrs. Shewchuk and Ms. Paynter's classes were brave enough to test out our first virtual field trip at ASM for the first time. The virtual field trip took us to Colorado to explore pond life and wetlands. The students were prepped that trying something new can be a risk and this was the perfect example. I learned alot about how a virtual field trip can be presented. Next time we are going to do a two way trip where we are interacting with a person on the other side. In this trip they were presenting to hundreds of schools and we could only type in our survey answers. It was great to see that our answers matched up with other students our age too though. We are looking forward to trying again and finding a better fit trip.
